January 11, 2023, Île Seguin, Paris. At 8 AM, at the Seine Musicale, Studio 3, setup by Arnaud and an assistant. At 8:30 AM, Lucas Lipari-Mayer arrived. At 9 AM, recording began.

Performed by one of the world’s best classical trumpeters, Lucas Lipari-Mayer from the “Ensemble intercontemporain.” He honored us by playing every note in the range from “Gb2 to C5” in over 20 playing styles/intentions and 2 dynamics (P and FF), offering flexibility and subtlety of expression for this C trumpet.

 

Raw Edition: This instrument prioritizes the authenticity of the recording. Here, we are in the raw, straight from the console with 8 microphones :

(1 Coles 4038 “Close 1”, 1 U47 “Close 2”, 2 TLM150 “Spot 1”, 2 AEA R84 “Spot 2”, and 2 TLM170 “Room”).

 

To preserve the soul of this session, the samples were meticulously cut manually, leaving some imperfect notes as well. No processing has been added—it’s RAW.

We have between 4 and 9 Round Robins for most of the playing styles. The “Long &/FX” notes are one-shots.

 

The aim of this Trumpet – RAW Edition is to offer users not only a faithful reference of interpretation and sound but also the experience of an unaltered studio session. Typically, the composer is with the sound engineer in the control room, the musician arrives, settles in, and plays. There are sometimes flaws; the sound is recorded “raw,” and this is precisely where the mixing journey begins.

If you’re not comfortable with mixing or don’t have a creative spirit, move on. Because the trade-off for great sound is, above all, time spent on programming and mixing.

 

Theoretically, this Trumpet – RAW Edition should offer each user a unique sound and interpretation.

 

Trumpet – RAW Edition consists of two twin patches: one Raw and the other Raw Tuned.

 

Both patches include artificial vibrato control in its intensity and speed, activation of the Legato script (tip: in solo mode, activate it for better results), real-time Time Stretch control, as well as three IRs of different mute types.
